Questions
Do I really need therapy?
It is fairly common for individuals to schedule an appointment when they "have tried everything" and "don't know what to do about it anymore." Here are some questions to ask yourself:
- Do my problems affect my health?
- Are my relationships with others being affected?
- Am I sleeping more or less?
- Are there changes in my diet?
- Am I more irritable, or has my mood changed?
- Is it hard for me to focus or concentrate at work or school?
- Have I experienced a recent loss or trauma?
- Am I using more alcohol or drugs than before?
- Am I falling out of love with my spouse or significant other?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, it may be helpful to talk to a counselor about these issues.

What are the different types of therapies provided?
APC's clinicians offer a wide variety of therapeutic interventions. After an initial intake, you and your therapist will collaborate on which interventions will be the most helpful. These include but are not limited to:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; Accelerated Resolution Therapy; Behavioral Modification; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Dialectic and Behavioral Therapy; Emotion-Focused Therapy; EMDR; Gottman Method; Health Psychology; Humanistic and Experiential; Hypnosis; Mindfulness; Psychodynamic Theory; Relational Life Therapy; Solution-Focused Therapy; and Trauma-Focused Interventions.
I have never been to therapy. What should I expect?
APC strives to offer a relaxed, supportive and safe environment for this sensitive and personal work. During your first phone call, case coordinators will help match you with a clinician that best fits your individual needs. Sessions typically involve open conversations where you can share your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. The first few sessions will primarily involve gathering historical and "big picture" information.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and over time, you'll build skills to navigate challenges, improve well-being, and create meaningful change in your life. We recommend scheduling weekly visits at the start to expedite therapeutic connection, understanding and healing.
