Makena received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the College of St. Scholastica. Makena has a passion for working with preteens, adolescents, and adults. She has experience treating concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship problems, and personality disorders.
Adhering to a person-centered approach, Makena believes that clients are the experts of their own lives, and her role is simply to serve as their guide. Makena utilizes therapeutic interventions tailored to fit her clients’ needs, but has a special interest in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Makena possesses a professional working proficiency in Spanish, and has taken various trips to immerse herself in Latin American and Hispanic cultures.
Outside of her clinical work, Makena enjoys artistic endeavors, such as painting, playing piano, and embroidery. Weather permitting, Makena also enjoys being outdoors, participating in activities such as hiking and (nervously) mountain biking.
